Holy Week Services

Hendersonville Presbyterian Church Holy Week Services.

Palm and Easter Sunday services will be at their normal times: 
Early Service: 8:30 am in the Chapel
King Street Contemporary Worship: 10:30 am in the Chapel
Traditional Service: 10:55 am in the Sanctuary

Special events have been scheduled at certain services listed below.

PALM SUNDAY - Hendersonville Presbyterian Church will begin Holy Week, Sunday April 14, with the waving of palm branches at all services. The special music April 14 in the chapel at 8:30 is Cindy Leonard singing “In the Name of the Lord” by Sandi Patty and “In Heaven’s Eyes” by Phil Mchugh.  At 10:55, in the sanctuary, the Handbell choir will open with a “Palm Sunday Celebration” by Dan R. Edwards, and conclude with the Handbell choir accompanying the congregation on the hymn “All Glory, Laud, and Honor” arr. by Cynthia Dobrinski.  Palm Sunday, the choir will sing the anthem “Hosanna to the Son of David” by Allen Pote.


EASTER SUNDAY, April 21, the 8:30 special music will be Gayle Stepp, playing “Resurrection Medley” arr. Erinn Jarrell Schwarz and “Christ Arose” arr. by Shelly Hamilton. At 10:55, Easter Sunday, the Handbell choir will play “Alleluia! Christ is Risen” arr. John A Behnke, and the choir will sing “A Resurrection Declaration” by Roger Thornhill and Victor C. Johnson.

MAUNDY THURSDAY - Our mid-week service will be on Maundy Thursday, April 18 at 6:30 P.M. The choir and musicians will present Part II of “A Walk through the Bible, The New Testament” written by Brenda Bradshaw. The presentation will include liturgical dancers Tarelton Brooks, Bronlynn Spindler, Judy Van Waggoner, and Denise McDorman. Choir anthems include: “Every Valley” by John Ness Beck, “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” arr. Hal H. Hopsin, “Ye Shall be My Witnesses” and “God Shall Wipe Away All Tears” by Jerry Kirk. Cathey Gilbert and Rena Johnsons will sing two selections: “My Soul Magnifies the Lord” arr. Benjamin Harlan and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” arr. Betsy Lee Bailey. Grant Sitler will accompany the choir on trombone, and Brenda Holmer will play a piano solo “Lord, I Want to Be a Christian,” and Kathy Reid will play “God So Loved the World” by John Stainer on her clarinet. Gayle Stepp will direct the choir play the accompaniments on the piano and organ. The congregation will join in singing “Joy to the World” and “We’ve a Story to Tell to the Nations.” Pastors, Tom Pitman and Bob Hicks will read and narrate. Holy Communion will be served.
